Australian Pollinator Week Blue Mountains ZOOM workshop

  • Blue Mountains 33/39 Acacia St, Katoomba NSW 2780 (map)

Join pollinator ecologist, Amelie Vanderstock, from your own backyard to learn about the importance, ecology and diversity of our local pollinating insects.

BOOK HERE

Together we will become citizen scientists and step away from the screen to do a “Wild pollinator count” from wherever we are.

We’ll have a chance to share some of the insects we find and brainstorm ways to support our pollinators through planting and habitat creation in our own backyards.

This is a family-friendly, Live, ZOOM workshop.

This workshop will be recorded.

Preparation before the workshop

1) Print your wild pollinator count data sheet from https://wildpollinatorcount.com to use during the workshop.

2) Decide which plant you will observe in the counting time during the workshop. You do not need to have internet when observing, but it will be helpful if it is close to where you are zooming in from. Hint: More flowers = more likely to see pollinators! Any native or exotic flowering plant is great, so long as you can write down the name!

Workshop Outline

1) Why are pollinators important?

2) Some of the exciting insects we might see.

3) Let’s go count pollinators outside! (Away from the screen)

4) Who did we find?

5) The Bees Kneeds: What can we do to support our pollinators?

6) Q & A

After the workshop (Optional but recommended!)

1) Submit your observations to https://wildpollinatorcount.com/submit-observations to be part of the national citizen science project! You can also upload photos of the pollinators you observed to i-naturalist https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/wild-pollinator-count.

2) Feel free to upload your pollinator observations to social media with the hashtag #PlanetaryHealthBM #OzPollinatorWeek #WeAreNature #LoveHopeDo
